TEHRAN — A center which provides Autoimmune Blistering Diseases (AB) patients with special care has been launched recently in Tehran, Fatemeh Hashemi the director of the Charity Foundation for Special Diseases, said on Tuesday.
Autoimmune blistering diseases are a group of disorders in which the body mistakenly attacks healthy tissue, causing blistering lesions that primarily affect the skin. In autoimmune blistering diseases, antibodies mistakenly attack proteins that are essential for the layers of skin to stick together.Symptoms and severity of blistering diseases vary from one person to another. Although there is no cure for autoimmune blistering diseases, they can often be controlled with treatment.
Hashemi noted that Heath Ministry has made a great effort to solve AB patients’ problems. Additionally the chief of Food and Drug Administration, Rasul Dinarvand has pledged to finance gauze bandage needed to wrap these patients open wounds.
“A nurse and a Doctor will be sent to areas with a higher concentration of the AB disease,” she noted.
Currently there are 500 patients diagnosed with AB disease and 150 of them are now members of the special care center in Tehran, Hashemi noted.
